Development on a theatrical adaptation of the Angry Birds smartphone game is in the works and former Marvel Studios chariman David Maisel has signed on as a special adviser for the movie.

While there’s no release date set in stone, rumor is a 2014 release.

  1. From a very simple (though well designed) mobile gaming app to a movie. This is quite a hardvard business case. I mean, if Rovio can keep Angry Birds popularity for a couple of years more, it will end up becoming a classic, don’t want to compare it to Pac-Man and Tetris, but what the heck, it’s a record game, downloaded millions of times, available for all systems, merchandise, and now the movie, which is backed up by some well-known people in the film industry. Kudos to the people at Rovio for the multiple achievements.

  2. Rovio is really serious with the movie! But why hire David Maisel? I think he’s jobless right now after Walt Disney bought Marvel. And since 20th Century Fox owe them a lot because of the success of Rio, maybe they are the one who can really help Rovio.
