‘The Room’ review: Sherlock would be proud of these puzzles

‘The Room’s’ clever puzzles, creepy atmosphere worthy of all the hype

I’ve been told I need to play “The Room,” a gaming app released in 2012. Reviews, both professional and customer, were stellar, having won a BAFTA award and being named Apple’s iPad Game of the Year. And with the price at a mere 99 cents and the second installment having been released just recently, I figured it was time to give it shot.

I am so glad I did.

Combining head-scratching puzzles with a constantly creepy atmosphere just oozing “Danger, Will Robinson” vibes, “The Room” is just out-and-out terrific. From the get-go, where you’re in a room with a surprisingly well-locked safe, to the shattering conclusion, you’re either on edge as the scare factor steadily notches up or pushing your wits to the limits to figure out how to solve all the puzzles.

Four mind-racking stars out of five.

Editor’s note: This game was reviewed on the iPad Mini. It is available on the App store and Google Play for 99 cents. The review for “The Room 2,” the sequel to this game, will be posted in the near future.
