‘The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 – In Sheep’s Clothing’ (2014) review: Doors to nowhere

‘In Sheep’s Clothing’ a low point in Telltale storytelling

A near-constant for Telltale and its slate of current releases has been its storytelling excellence. Each part in its episodic adventures, in this case “The Wolf Among Us,” has showered us with outstanding character growth, plot development and overall narrative. It’s become standard that we’re left in awe after each new release.

Which is why I’m so disappointed with Episode 4 of “The Wolf Among Us,” titled “In Sheep’s Clothing.” Despite a stellar opening sequence that leaves you both squeamish and hardened for what may come, it takes a shockingly short amount of time (the whole episode is just more than an hour long) before you realize that nothing of consequence happens throughout the entire episode (sans for the last two minutes or so).

“In Sheep’s Clothing” takes place after the chaotic events in Episode 3, where we made life-or-death decisions in our fight against Bloody Mary and the Twiddle brothers. Episode 4 opens with us suffering the aftermath of our violent tendencies, having our opened, bloody wounds tended. Or not tended, in one particularly gruesome scene, where we get to remind ourselves why bones should never been seen. Combine that with a quick-fire back-and-forth with Snow White, with whom we at once get closer with and more distant from while trying to allay her fears of us being … reckless, shall we say? It’s a fantastic opener, heavy on the drama and personal connection.
