‘Hot Pursuit’ fails at every asinine turn

I have a love-hate relationship with comedies (which sounds like a comedy in and of itself, I know). The problem? Comedy is incredibly subjective, and I for the most part don’t find the humor in what purports to be the comedies running rampant these days. (Just FYI, I’m a dry humor/sarcasm type of guy.)

But I do enjoy Reese Witherspoon, and Sofia Vergara is something of a mystery to me. (I don’t watch much TV, but I do know Forbes reported that she is the top-earning actress on TV for the third year in row, netting some $37 million in 2014 alone from endorsement contracts and her role on “Modern Family.”) The next logical step, of course, was giving these humorous actresses the benefit of the doubt and sitting through “Hot Pursuit,” their odd-couple comedy.

I didn’t ask for my money back, but only just barely. Rarely have I seen a major production with such serious star power fall so hard on its face. In effect, “Hot Pursuit” is a cringe-worthy train wreck from start to finish, failing to capitalize on its stars’ talents, to create a non-idiotic narrative or even to land a joke.
